PHC Audiologist: Abigail Dinkel, Au.D.

Where did you grow up?

I was born and raised in the Kansas City area.

Where did you go to school?

I went to St. James Academy in Lenexa for high school, Kansas State University for undergrad, and KU Med for graduate school.

Why did you want to become an audiologist?

I always knew I wanted to work in the medical field and shadowed in several different health professions during my college years. I spent a few weeks working with a local audiologist, and found it to be exactly what I had been looking for in a career.

What is your favorite area of audiology?

My first love in audiology has always been amplification. Utilizing advances in technology to allow people to hear and understand in situations they have struggled in for years is one of my favorite parts of my job. I see patients 0-100+ years old on any given day, but I have always had a passion for working with the pediatric population. I completed my residency at Children’s Mercy and, for me, there are few things more rewarding than giving children access to the sounds of the world around them.

At what office(s) do you work?

I work at our Broadway and Menorah locations.

Now some fun questions!

What’s your favorite television show?

I could watch reruns of Seinfeld, Parks & Rec, 30 Rock, or Arrested Development any time and not get tired of them.

If you could bring back any fashion trend, what would it be?

I could definitely get on board with bringing back the big and bold patterns of the 80s and 90s, maybe throw in some shoulder pads while we’re at it.

If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be?

Anywhere in Europe, but Portugal, Switzerland, and Croatia are all on my current must-see travel list!
